A Healthy Diet for Kids: 2 Asparagus Tips for You [LOL]
Kids Healthy Meals Diet: Healthy Soups
Hi, Jan Ashby here. Today I’ll provide an asparagus soup that falls into the category of healthy soups . In the video, the lady chef is actually a dietician – so she’ll show you, STEP by STEP, just what to do.
In this particular recipe, she uses garlic cloves & onion (try not to substitute the bulk garlic). You’ll be chopping it up, and placing it in a pan on the stove. The trick here is to use less cream.
Happy Fathers Day, in advance – here’s an aside :
I love making soup from scratch – my father used to have me collect as many Potato Soup recipes as possible, as he wanted to “try them all”. He was a Kentucky gentleman & learned to cook late in life.
He liked to experiment too – hope you’ll feel free to do that too !
An Overview of Asparagus
Asparagus is actually known as a medicinal plant, as well as a food. It is very good for both your heart and your digestive system.
If you’ve ever wondered what some of the most “useful” and beneficial plants are, look no more! Since asparagus is quite low in calories (around 40 calories for 1 cup) AND it has a very tasty flavor, it is popular both in the Mediterranean and in the United States.
Asparagus aids in your digestion because it produces good bacteria. This in turn promotes proper digestion.
You could do worse than focus on this great vegetable ! It is a natural diuretic and a decent source of fiber.
It strengthens bones as it contains a lot of Vitamin K, which aids in the transporting of calcium!
When you analyze whole foods for their properties, it is a bonus when you find one with a lot of Vitamin B and folate. What does folate do? Well, it assists your cells – it basically helps to build new cells (plus maintain existing ones) & prevent birth defects.
So you can see why it is in demand. Okay on to the cooking.
Asparagus Tips: Asparagus is Ideal for the Grill
Asparagus is the perfect veggie for any grill, you don’t have to be outside, an indoor grill or serrated grill pan all make ideal cooking implements. And it’s worthwhile to have a set of tongs handy.
Asparagus is a balanced vegetable that is not only important for healthy eating but also for its ability to help keep constipation at bay. So if you want to stay “regular”, then asparagus can help with this. Also, drinks like The Green Drink.
Now let’s talk about the grilling of this fabulous vegetable !
Grilling Vegetables for Healthier Eating
One of the most famous ways of cooking the vegetable is by grilling. Becoming knowledgeable in how to grill asparagus is easy. Grilling helps bring out the zest in the vegetables, and this is optimum so that you can keep the nutrients – and not just BOIL them away.
Asparagus also has vitamin A, and vitamin C. A serving of six cooked fresh asparagus spears has 1 g dietary fiber, 490 IU vitamin A, 10 mg vitamin C and 131 mcg folate. It is low in fat, and has practically no cholesterol.
*Note: this healthy vegetable also has potassium, niacin, zinc, phosphorus, riboflavin and thiamine
